We’re looking for a Backend Lead who can take ownership of the backend, work closely with frontend and product, and help us build a solid, scalable foundation.

The Role

As Backend Lead, you’ll be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the core backend systems that power UnifiedBeez. You’ll also play a key role in technical decision-making, team coordination, and keeping things organised as the product grows.

This role is hands-on. You’ll be writing code regularly, not just reviewing PRs.

What You’ll Be Doing
• Design and build scalable backend services and APIs
• Own backend architecture and data flow across the platform
• Work closely with frontend, mobile, and product teams to ship features smoothly
• Integrate third-party services (messaging APIs, payments, AI services, etc.)
• Ensure performance, security, and reliability of backend systems
• Write clear technical documentation so the whole team stays aligned
• Help improve development processes and code quality
• Mentor junior developers when needed

Required Skills & Experience

We’re looking for someone with strong technical ability and strong communication.

Backend & Core Tech
• Strong experience with Node.js (NestJS preferred) or Django
• Solid API design experience (REST, webhooks, real-time systems)
• Experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB
• Experience working with AWS (or similar cloud platforms)
• Understanding of authentication, roles, permissions, and security best practices

DevOps & Workflow
• Comfortable with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and clean deployment workflows
• Experience with Docker (Kubernetes is a plus, not a must)
• Familiar with testing and performance optimisation

Communication & Organisation
• Can explain technical ideas clearly to non-backend teammates
• Comfortable working in a collaborative, async team
• Good at organising tasks, tracking progress, and following through
• Takes ownership and doesn’t need constant supervision

Nice to Have (Not Required)
• Experience with fintech, messaging platforms, or SaaS products
• Experience with Golang
• Experience building internal tools like CRMs or admin dashboards
• Mentoring or team lead experience
